Post Orange Goblin
Eulogy of The Damned is released Monday. It is being touted as their best effort in a 20+ year career. I have heard some tracks off this and they are out of this world. People have lumped Goblin amongst the Stoner group amongst the likes of Kyuss, Corrosion of Conformity and Monster Magnet when Goblin themselves often state they are just a Heavy Metal band... amongst the likes of Motorhead, Priest and Maiden. Eulogy is the album that highlights what Goblin are all about... and elevates them to the forefront of Metal today.

Here is a track from the new album, enjoy.

A band that always promised more than they delivered. Always great to know they were around but they deserved respect more than love. I was into them around the time of Big Black and Time Travelling, but never followed them really. A 3 fist band imo and I don't know if I'd be bothered with this one.

I will listen to that link later on.

With them I just feel there are much better bands that I could be spending my time on. A mate did posters for them in Ireland and said they were very nice. Damning with faint praise I know.

To be fair, the early albums, much as I enjoy them, are within the post Kyuss "stoner rock" style in many ways. The last two albums had a more blues and old school hard rock/metal edge, and were truly excellent. I'm hoping that they stick with that style now. Hugely admirable and likeable bunch of lads playing no BS heavy music. Whats not to like?

Also, C.O.C., Kyuss and Monster Magnet are great heavy rock bands, so its no insult to be compared to them, but "stoner rock" is a stupid fucking term anyway, it has been applied to everyone from The Grateful Dead to High On Fire, it means nothing. If its largely Sabbath influenced, its heavy rock or metal.

Yeah, this. There's nothing wrong with them, and they deserve applause for sticking to their guns for so long, but I can't imagine ever being excited about them.

You sure know how to sum up your opinion. That said in an interview with Metal Hammer that they have took their time with the songwriting and really worked hard on the right production for the new album.

I dunno, I found 'Thieving From The House Of God' and 'Healing Through Fire' hugely enjoyable, and the songwriting was of a pretty high quality, far sharper than the earlier albums IMO.

Healing Through Fire would be my guess.

I love the first three albums, and didn't really give them a chance after they released the crap fourth one, even though people keep telling me to. Watched the vid for the new track and it seemed quite good. I might download the later albums, but I'm not hopeful.

As Was said though, lovely guys when I met them, and always great live. I saw them at Mammothfest in Brighton, having not seen them in probably 8 years, and they were like a different, almost better, band.

Zag, I will never pay attention to what you type as long as you have that signature.

The sig's not a problem I was joking, the irony is that it's distracting. On the Goblin album, it's getting rave reviews... 9/10 in Hammer. I ordered it from Amazon on vinyl.

Listened twice. It's strictly in the not bad category for me. The best bit is the bridge part 3 mins or so. But it doesn't exactly pique my interest for their new platter.
