1. Killing Joke (1980)
2. What's THIS For...!
3. Killing Joke (2003)
4. Ha! (I know live albums are cheating but it's got the definitive version of Pssyche)
5. Pandemonium
6. Extremities, Dirt And Various Repressed Emotions
7. The Peel Sessions 1979-1981 (if Napalm Death's Peel Sessions make it onto lists, so does this)
8. Night Time
9. Revelations

The rest

Fire Dances.

I'm resuscitating this thread cause I've just found out that I'll be interviewing Jaz Coleman next week - this should be really interesting. One of the true enigmatic figures of extreme music!!!

Post Re: Killing Joke
He gives a track by track rundown of 'Absolute Dissent' (as the new album is now called - 'Feast Of Fools' is now lost in the bowels of the studio as both a title and a song) over at the Quietus, and seems, if anything, more agitated than ever. Lots of talk about the acceleration of technology towards a singularity/endpoint in 2012, etc. Except it looks like 'Timewave' is another track that won't be making it onto the album itself.

Album itself is painted as more melodic and eclectic than their past two, like 'Night Time' or perhaps 'Democracy', on steroids. It's also a lot less 'tribal', because the drummer is bored with playing like that.

If you get the debut make sure you buy the reissue with "Change" on it because it's brilliant. I read an interview with Geordie where he said the point of Killing Joke was to combine Motown grooves with scary post-punk, and on that song you totally understand that. It's a got a Chic bassline, but then Jaz's voice sounds like Dracula making a dub record. Fab-o.

Absolutely pear shaped - Jaz was meant to have a lay over in Sydney and he was going to come over and do a face to face.

Couple of hours beforehand I got a call telling me the plane had been re-directed to stop over in Hong Kong instead.....epic metal journalism fail....

First 3 albums, definitely. The 'Ha!!' Live EP is ace too. I'm not a big fan of most of their stuff after NightTime. I'd definitely avoid the likes of Brighter Than A Thousand Suns, unless you want to have the shite bored out of you.

That album (Absolute Dissent) is one of their best, and up there with the 2003 s/t album as the best of their 'recent' ones.

Right back atcha, it's a solid 5/5, no question. The latest one is alright, but doesn't really stand out.

How is Jaz coping with the fact that "the singularity" didn't happen in 2012?

I've listened to five of their albums now, and mostly they're pretty forgettable.

This is brilliant though:

Absolutely clear up at Eurovision with that.

Exactly! Should've entered it 3 years ago!
