Post Worst touring packages
For all of the shows you've been too in your area, what were some of the worst touring lineups you've ever seen? How was the band received at the show and did others think the band was shit as well? Do you know how or who promoted the band to get on the bill?

First thing to come to mind was the infamous Carcass and Cubanate tour...

Hatebreed with Crowbar

Seeing them together at the Mean Fiddler made me realize that I didn't really like Hatebreed, some local Hardcore kids I bumped into on the train back home slagged off Crowbar and were shocked to find out that I went to the gig especially to see them.

Motorhead have toured with some fucking terrible and badly matched bands since the mid 90's, especially Radiator and Psycho Squad on the No Speak With Forked Tongue tour. There has also been the likes of Goldblade, Class Of Zero, Volbeat, Skew Siskin, Biffy Clyro, Foo Fighters etc.

Deicide supported by the gawdawful Wikked Witch, and the sheer tedium and posturing of The Amenta when they played with Obituary also come to mind. And any gig or festival in the 90's or early 2000's where there was some fucking nu-metal band on the bill, with their big comedy trousers and awful, lumpen shitty fucking music.

Also, often when the headline band reaches here they don't always have the same support as in the Uk. Several tours have seen the likes of Saxon and Entombed play everywhere but here over the years, which was a huge letdown.

Sometimes you get some shit local types supporting. It is even worse if it isn't a full on metal band, go and see a hard rock, alt or punk act and you will have to put up with some bullshit indie thing like The Minutes, or The cunting Blizzards. Or during the late 90's, early 2000's going to see someone like say, Tool meant fucking Cyclefly would be supporting.

The mighty Accept supported by fucking Dokken. Dublin 86. Try as I might to stay a bit too long in the pub and miss the cunts, I didn't...

Dokken are ace.
Saw them supporting AC/DC in 1988.
That was a good night.

Huntress with The Defiled & Black Spiders. I have no interest in those last 2 bands. Purson with Black Magician & Moss was better as was Beastmilk with Herder & Doomriders. But I'm not going to watch the band I like squeezed in the middle with a short set this year, headliners only!

This.

Also most Dragonfoce tours recently. It's like they're contractually obliged to tour with metalcore bands.

ANTHRAX & 3 Colours Red, SLAYER & Ellis, argh... I can't think of many of these, but I can remember some really great packages that you wouldn't expect, like IRON MAIDEN & MY DYING BRIDE, VOIVOD & NASHVILLE PUSSY, DEICIDE & BRUTAL TRUTH, ORANGE GOBLIN & SUNN0))), STATUS QUO & CHAS & DAVE...

I'm pretty sure it was both. FFaF on DOD tour, and Trivium on the AMoLaD tour.

Caught them touring together in Nottingham. Amenta were grand. Deicide phoned it in.

There were some shit bands opening for Helmet and Killing Joke but they were that bland and generic I can vaguely remember them. Maybe I dreamed them.

Shit support bands are a bonus for me anyway. It makes the tour flyer look awful but ultimately it means more time in the pub and no pressure to get in early. Good times.

Even better when the shit band are headliners. Means you can the last bus/train/etc too.

I wouldn't say shit but certainly a strange one was Megadeth supported by The Almioghty and Alice In Chains. Now, I wouldn't bat an eyelid as Megadave has become a third rate rock fiasco but back then (Rust In Peace tour) they were at their heaviest, and a glorified pub rock band and a 'glam' rock-become-'grunge' band were very odd choices.

Big labels seem to like this sort of thing - wasn't there a recent tour with Behemoth Arch Enemy and Grand Magus?

Don't know if it made Europe, but Slayer's US tour with System of a Down and Clutch was an odd (but by no means bad) one musically, if not for the label.

That was actually a great tour. Beginning of SOADs ascent.

I've seen HATEBREED with way too many really good bands. They did a tour where they sandwiched in between OBITUARY and NAPALM DEATH. Yucko...

DANZIG and Alex Masi opening for SLAYER in '88 was embarrassing. Just cause, fuck DANZIG. Even in '88.

...as for truly awful bills that I wouldn't go see on a bet, some of the recent Mayhem US tours were dreadful. I mean look at this steaming heap:

Yup.
I saw both tours and hated both supports.
