Well the promo campaign didn't start until 2000! I should know, it was my first ever interview. Wikipedia says Feb 2000, although my promotional Fu Manchu licence plate is dated 08241999. Either way, the band's glory daze start with their first LP in 1994, instantly they were a complete entity with a sound and aesthetic all of their own.

They didn't really grab me until In Search Of.................

I liked King Of The Road a lot, but not as much as The Action Is Go and In Search Of.....

Post Re: Worst touring packages
I haven't heard the latest album, which is apparently better than Signs Of Infinite Power, but here goes:

1.The Action Is Go
2.In Search Of......
3.King Of The Road
4.We Must Obey
5.Eatin' Dust
6.Daredevil
7.Signs Of Infinite Power
8.California Crossing
9.Start The Machine

Haven't listened to No One Rides For Free for years. Don't remember it.

I used to think California Crossing was their worst but after revisiting it in the mid 00's I realised I was wrong. The songs are quite good but the lack of fuzz robs it of power. Start The Machine had some power but the songwriting is extremely uneven.

Deicide live are great, I met GB at the Astoria and he signed my ticket!

Deicide are definitely poor on the live front and it is a good point to ask why they bother. Saying that, for quite a long period of time they were notorious for cancelling their tours at the last minute, trot out the standard apology then do it again. Not that i gig much nowadays but even if they turned up in swiss piss i wouldn't bother.

Another one that came to mind was the double headliner of Type O Negative and Coal Chamber. No doubt driven by roadrunner, but seriously worthy of WTF?

I've heard with Deicide that it depends on the night. Still, that's not good enough. A professional band should be more consistent than that.

Coal Chamber and Type O were definitely an odd pair. Getting Clutch to open before Slayer was kind of strange too.

From a general point of view it seems Deicide on form is more of a rarity. Too many reviews and people's experiences of half arsed performances.

The only time i saw them remotely approaching decent was when they were about to launch their Earache debut and it seemed like a rejuvenated version, but the next tour they were back to the usual problems.

Was there not a tour with Napalm Death, Machine Head, Sick of it All and Coal Chamber?

I can imagine Type O with Coal Chamber, probably cos they were always together on those Drilling The Vein comps. They are both sort of spookycore. I saw TON once on their October Rust tour, cant remember who supported, probably 13 Candles or something, only that the stage was full of leaves and he was drinking a bottle of red wine!

They both have a goth influence I suppose, but Coal Chamber make mosh music. Type O Negative are more of a mood band that have a few mosh worthy songs. I never got the impression that they appealed to the same audience, although I could be wrong.

I thought Soilwork/Overkill earlier this year was an odd pairing.
Lamb of God supporting Heaven and Hell was a bit strange in 2007, as was Fear Factory supporting Sabbath in '97.
The Accused supporting Thorr's Hammer and Corrupted was a bit strange too. Worked though.

I was at the Friday Sabbath show at the NEC in 97 and most people over the age of 30 didn't go in to see Fear Factory. Fucking awful shite.

I was there the night before and it was quite funny to watch a bloke of around 50 having a go at his kid for jumping up and down like a maniac to FF, but did the exact same thing to Sabbath while his kid looked at him like he was mental.

For the record, I thought Fear Factory were excellent that night but Sabbath still killed them (even if Bill did drop a few bollocks).

Has the Funeral For A Friend supporting Iron Maiden thing been mentioned yet? I didn't go but heard about it and it seemed a rather poor idea.

I saw West Coast hip hop outfit Tha Dogg Pound support Deftones at UNSW Roundhouse back in January & that went down extremely poorly. I don't think anyone in the audience even looked at the poor bastards during their set. It was complete disinterest.

I did, and it was a very poor idea. They didn't go down well at all.

The only time I have seen Maiden they were supported by Avenged Twatfold, Steve Harris's daughter and some other cunts. Staying the pub was the best appraoch to that line up.
