I'd rather hear Metallica covering 'Prince Charming'...

I think Metallica's problem is they don't release albums often enough. Think of all the bands who have made career detours over the years, for example Megadeth. If we consider Metallica and Megadeth's albums side by side, St Anger was Metallica's Risk, and Death Magnetic was their 'World Needs a Hero'. Which means that the next Metallica album might have a few decent songs on it, and they might do a half decent album in 2030! Amazing that Megadeth have 14 albums so far and Metallica have done 9.

As a gigging band though, they're increasingly appalling. It's only a problem if you fancy going to see them though, dunno why anyone would bother these days.If they can't be arsed to play the songs properly then i can't be arsed to see them-even if some of their setlists are bloody good.

 Re: "Greatest Hits" bands
Metallica have lost a lot of their live oomph since Newsted left - they really need to get him back in the band for this reason alone. They're still good live but not the top drawer act they were.

If you're going to take it out on the road, take it out to the fullest. That's common decency. I understand but if people keep turning up to these half-hearted gigs (and Lars himself says he can't be bothered to practice) then they have no reason to take a step-back and try to regain some enthusiasm for playing live. If they can get 50000 mugs to turn up regardless then i'm sure they are happy to take the fans' dosh.

Yep-fair enough of course. I'm assuming you would like to see them again then-otherwise it's only a problem for others. By the way-i haven't been on here for a while and i haven't come back just to wind people up-so i'm sorry if it's coming off that way.

And no, I've no interest in seeing them again, but I feel as a professional you have a duty to give of your best and maintain your highest standards. It's a problem for me even if I don't attend because the entertainment dollar comes from a finite pool, and every cent of it they suck up is a cent that can't go elsewhere. Ha ha!-well-when you put it that way......

That fast riff is utter shit, like something you would play to see if your amp was turned on. I can't believe they, Metallica, the MASTERS of the RIFF, thought that was good enough... the drums sound horrible the whole thing is clipping like fuck. Thing is, if it wasn't for the first three albums it would be okay, we wouldn't have to get so upset about it, because it wouldn't matter. But it does matter because Metallica were once important. Very, very important. And now they are completely irrelevant. I haven't seen them since 1988 and truth be told they weren't that great then. In fact of all the great thrash bands I've seen, Metallica were the least impressive live. Not even a shitty collapsing statue could lift it. Mind you, would I kill to have seen them at the Marquee in 1984, of course.

Ronnie. The worst thing about that song is that when it's finished, there's still nine fucking boring minutes of the album left.

The only sensible option, showcases the development of the band over the years. It actually irritates me that the Hidden Treasures tracks are where they are but I couldn't open the compilation with a cover.

I've been tasked by Mrs Mali with making her a post 1992 Megadeth compilation... since (in her words) none of the albums are any good compared to the old stuff, but there's some good tracks.
So...
I'm thinking

 Re: "Greatest Hits" bands
The Priest one is from years ago when I didn't knkw much of their stuff, I asked for recommendations here and that's more or less the tracklist I got. I'm happy enough with that, I've never been pushed about them. The Megadeth one is from my trawling through their post-RIP albums and keeping the tracks I liked.

You 'missed' 99 Ways to Die, I love that song... it was the ultimate incarnation of Dave's squawk, it sounded like he was eating his own face at some points.
