One of their most overlooked classics. The leadwork and breakdown-y bit are utterly fantastic. 5 fists up the wazoo needless to say.

Just re-reading this thread and I noticed this comment. I honestly can't agree with this. Dumbed down? Really? Just listen to the album again. Megadeth have always written about dark subject matter, but on recently listening to Youthanasia I kept noticing just how bleak the lyrical content is. Yes, maybe the songs are structured more simply and along more conventional hard rock/metal lines, but that just helps to ram the album's message home further. From what I remember, Mustaine went back onto heroin about this time, and his mentor on the rehab programme relapsed and died. I think he basically was pretty much in a mindset that he couldn't win his battle with addiction at this point, and the lyrics and overall feel of the album reflect this. Basically Youthanasia is a record made by a man who sees the grave opening in front of him, and it really doesn't get much bleaker than that. It may be more hard rock oriented, but it's definitely not mainstream friendly material. It could well be Megadeth's finest hour.

It's a far superior album to Rust In Peace though.

 Re: "Greatest Hits" bands
I did have the whole Megadeth back catalogue at one point, but gave most of the albums away as I wasn't listening to them much.
I've done this with a few bands over the years. This has led to a situation whereby I have Load and Jugulator in my CD collection, but not Reign In Blood. (The only Slayer albums I have now are SNM, SOH, Seasons and Decade Of Aggression).

Anyone who reckons Youthanasia is better than Rust In Peace must've been smoking Mustaine's leftover crack...

Other than Prince Of Darkness, there is not a single redeeming feature on Risk. Crush'em can get fucked as well.

No, I must retract that previous statement. As much as I dislike Rust in Peace there is no way it's worse than Risk. Just don't make me listen to either of them.
