Most of the XX singers that I like are non-metal, Katherine Katz and Dr Mikannibal might be two exceptions but they're basically co-vocalists so it's difficult to say what an entire album of them would be like.

Does Julie Christmas count? Also Jennifer Herrema is more metal than a lot of male singers, in attitude as well as musicality, my mum thought it was Marlon Brando when she heard her for the first time.

Not sure if Julie Christmas counts either , but I absolutely love her voice, really looking forward to her album with Cult Of Luna.

I thought of her when I saw the thread title, I've got her recentish (well, last thing she released to my knowledge) solo album where she's doing Diamanda Galas type stuff, I dig it.

I met her a few years ago, got to see TH soundcheck, she's tiny and oh so pretty, then she opens her mouth, amazing.

I recently listened to the 1982 demo "Satan's Angel" from Germany's Holy Moses & was very surprised to hear legitimate black metal vocals from their female front woman. She was a very attractive young lady but her shriek isn't too far removed from the Norwegian model that would surface a decade later. Of the six tracks on offer two were particularly close to being one of the earliest examples of thrash metal while no one can tell me that the title track isn't genuine black metal. Overall it's a demo of varying quality & I probably won't go back for repeat listens but I find it hard to believe that Holy Moses aren't spoken of more often as far as influence goes.

They are usually only mentioned to bolster the Teutonic thrash movement that emerged in the 80s, partially just to expand the list beyond Kreator, Destruction and Sodom (and Tankard when journalists are feeling real adventurous). Or maybe that's just the cynical part of me :D
