Dont usually like harsh female vocals except Gallhammer & Huntress but dont mind Arch Enemy.

Got some more time, so...

First of all, I should have remembered Dawn Crosby (R.I.P.) from Detente/Fear of God. Huge omission, very special lady, very special vox:

Next, Sabina Classen of Holy Moses. Always loved her vocals, woman could thrash!

Lita's finest moment. Sappy 80s ballad but it's a good one.

No list would be complete without the batshit crazy Great Kat. Borderline terrible but I always had a soft spot for this song.

Some of the most hilarious interviews ever. Back in 1988 she gave an interview to the greek Metal Hammer and it was basically interviewer and interviewee cussing at each other. All in good fun, although I think when she made the comeback in 1996 she had really lost it for good.

I was never a fan of Arch Enemy, as I find them generic and bland but I loved this song from the beginning, so I guess Angela gets an honorary mention.

Found Anneke's voice a bit underwhelming to be honest.

I think I remember checking her out before and feeling similar.

Ha d a bit of time to think and there's a few I can think of. Funeral were great when they had Toril Snyen and Hanne Hukkelberg at the helm.

Toril era Funeral:

And Hukkelberg era Funeral:

Also, there's Natalie Kosinken from Shape of Despair:

And Monika Edvardsen from Atrox. She also designed their album covers:

Her sister, Ann Mari Edvardsen was also in The Third And The Mortal:

I could probably name more with time.

not sure why the best female vocalist in metal ie Agnete Kirkevaag has been left off so far, but anyway:

Ihsahn's missus- her album The Thread is her best one

but this is her finest moment

Anathema's Lee Douglas is an ever more important member of the band

Mourn were short-lived but their album was good (actually the demo was better!) and this was the highlight from it

Apart from Stat_Rad nobody remembers these were nearly as big as The Gathering back in the day. Tradge should like these

Erik Rutan at least tried something different with Alas, even if the sum of the parts wasn't quite as good as it could have been

Non-vokills:
Jaz from Theoktony

This song genuinely makes me feel queasy when I hear it. It's awful in every respect, obviously but it's the production in particular that does it for me. I don't know what it is exactly, but it just sounds wrong. That whole album's the same.

Great call on Agnete. I feel ashamed that I didn't mention her. She is right there amongst my female metal faves.

The ALAS album had some moments, but that chick's vocals are terrible.

It could have been worse. It could have been this:

Haha, I remember that video being shown on Mick Wall's Monster of Rock with (perm) Ozzy as a guest, good times. Not a bad pop song, exceptional video.

I get the queasy feeling on the ballad but definitely not on the production (typical 80s pop production). It's a great song nevertheless and both voices RULE.

The only female fronted band that also preceded The Gathering back in the day was Theatre of Tragedy and in fact I would say that Velvet Darkness They Fear opened the whole can of worms of gothic-friendly, female-fronted, guy growling, castrated doom/death, "atmospheric" metal. I absolutely HATE that subgenre (which was huge in Greece, also thanks to Septic Flesh) but Velvet Darkness They Fear was a novelty of a kind (well, expanding on Into the Pandemonium and Gothic's legacy obviously) and I actually went out and bought it because of Vincent Price (I'm a sucker for Vincent, fave actor, I'll consume anything feat. Vincent, it's almost sad :P )

So, Liv Kristine. Although, the best part is around the 4th minute when Vincent's godly voice makes an appearance.

I forget if this was mentioned. Avatarium are Leif Edling's child and I sincerely hope everyone knows who he is (the Swedish Doom Metal Goid behind Candlemass and Krux, one of the best songwriters in metal history). I really liked their first work. Their album this year is also very good although not as special I thought. Jennie-Ann in any case has a wonderful voice and this is a beautiful song:

I actually bought Lita. Awful.

Doro wins this, whatever you think of the music. Good, solid, just cheesy enough Eurorock (not Eurovision rock like Nightwish and the like). Well done OLP.

I might have missed it but has Karen Crisis been mentioned yet? I'm not a fan at all, but some of you are.

Sol has a less wacky moment shocker.

Here's another gratuitous Doro pic, because she gives me tingly feelings in my nether regions.
