I'm not interested in buying all of their albums, but I wouldn't mind owning 2-3 more. Which ones should I buy next? I'm guessing Iron Fist?

1st album, Bomber and Another Perfect Day.

Damn right. No Remorse is an excellent comp. and well worth having in your collection. There's 4 tracks that were exclusively recorded for it by the then line-up of Lemmy, Wurzel, Campbell and Pete Gill and they're all corkers. You'd get it for fuck-all 2nd hand on Amazon these days.

Including "Killed by death" of course, which is one of the greatest songs ever written in human history.

Interesting fact (for those unaware of it, I suppose): After Fast Eddie jumped/was pushed, Lemmy asked Lips from Anvil to join the band. He clearly refused, the stupid cunt.

Of their studio albums, I would recommend you explore these next:

01. Bomber
02. Bastards
03. Another Perfect Day

01. Another Perfect Day
02. Bastards
03. Bomber

But yeah... 8-)

Wow, that was.... dumb. He's a decent guitarist with Lemmy there to keep him under control he could have been good.

Stat: Iron Fist is kind of a retread of Ace of Spades. More of a die hard's album really. Kind of blessed with genius but a bit off the cuff, like the magic of Ace of Spades was still in the air, but they just kinda spat another one out without trying too hard, the production isn't as good either. If you get the CD with the single B-Sides on it's worth it for 'Remember Me I'm Gone' and also on the Another Perfect Day re-issue, the B-Sides from 'I Got Mine' are great too.

Remember Me I'm Gone is ace. Should've been on the album.
The main problem I have with Iron Fist is the sound, not the songs.

Don't understand the issues with Iron Fist. It's possibly my favourite of theirs. The sound is off? Turn it up then.

That's a very good point.

Devin Townsend obviously thought so, which is why Strapping Young Lad's live album is called "No Sleep 'Til Bedtime"...

No Sleep At All is better but the SYL title wins!

Yeh. That SYL show was amazing too. I was there! I don't remember Devin announcing that they were recording a live album though.

Melbourne? I saw them in Sydney 1999 or 2000 I think. They were at their peak then pretty much.

Yes Melbourne bro!

I saw them in 1997 and saw Devin a few more times in the late 90's and early 00's. He was touring as a solo act, but he brought Hoglan along so they played many SYL songs.

Post Re: RIP Lemmy
Ι remember in 1997, having just got City (because of Hoglan, did not recognise Devin's name at all) I saw an ad for a tour in the UK with the Wildhearts (who I don't give two shits about) that would go through Bristol, where I was staying. Now, City is one of my favorite albums, so it was pretty exciting.

I called to get a ticket and they told me that the tour was cancelled because the Wildhearts disbanded. Fucking hell.

On semi-related note, I only got a chance to see Motorhead once and it was under the worst circumstances. A festival turned fiasco in Athens, organized by someone who had no idea what he was doing, booked a lot of acts (including Anthrax, Dimmu borgir, The Haunted, In Flames among others) and set stage on a beach. A beach that was fully viewable from the road, a narrow strip of sand, with ordinary folk having a swim right next to the stage. Anyone who paid for a ticket felt like an idiot the moment he arrived at the place. At the end, 90% of the audience could not see, the sand made things asphyxiating at any hint of movement and then some bands just did not show up.

The promoter had failed to pay the advance fee, failed to provide transportation for the bands (hotel to festival), Dimmu Borgir were seen in full gear and makeup looking for a cab(!) and eventually did not make it. The crowd at the beach, waiting endlessly with very little patience at this point, was ready to riot until Lemmy showed up. I later learnt that his manager had told him at the hotel that they would not play because the promoter did not pay them and Lemmy said that there was no way they would cancel. So he saved that night. A big shame I had to jump to take a glimpse and the sound was of course mediocre at best. Still, a good gig overall and just hearing his voice and seeing him there (with some difficulty), was quite the experience.
