Post Re: Metallica Remasters...Anyone Bothered?
I remember the exact moment I decided Metallica was no longer my favorite band. When they released Live Shit binge and Purge. That was one fantastic box set but there was no way I could afford it and it really, REALLY bothered me that they did not release the CDs and the videotapes separately. Their first official live release and it was way beyond my reach. I was already struggling to cope with the turn they did with The Black Album, so...

I've read about the contents of the special editions here. There are some pretty interesting shit in there, including old live recordings and the books with the liner notes. Just yesterday they gave a sample of the notes written by Hank Shermann (of Mercyful Fate) about the recordings of Ride the Lightning. "Read the rest of the story on the booklet..." FUCK YOU MAN, I CAN'T AFFORD YOUR SPECIAL EDITION.

It was an overrated set anyway. I got it for Christmas in 93 and sold it 4-5 years later. No regrets!

It looked cool though.

My only comment is you can walk into Urban Outfitters and buy Metallica vinyl. That's what is had come to, hipster cunts with their imaculate trophy items and unused download codes

I expect that cunt Shkreli has already ordered everything special edition vinyl

JB Hi Fi are advertising it for $370. That's nearly three times what I paid for my (rather excellent) Led Zeppelin IV deluxe box set.

So...get rooted Metallica.

I have no problem with people 'preferring' vinyl to CD or whatever. To suggest it's 'better' is utter bollocks, mind. And you're right. This vinyl 'resurgence' is a load of old shite. They're talking about figures of 1m worldwide a week...Fucking Phil Collins used to sell that in a week on his own back in the 80s. Vinyl, and Metallica can go fuck themselves.

Why cant I just walk into ASDA & buy the BabyMetal CD? I'm sure it will sell as much as the Maiden here.

I'll pay that much for a box set when Metallica release a new album that's even half as good as RTL. They'd rather let the money pour in than write decent music, and this has been the case since '91. It's especially ironic when you see them trying to grab more cash for an album they released more than 30 years ago. Bunch of useless, musically inept cunts.

JB's vinyl prices are shit across the board though, so that's to be expected.

If their prices were good they would have wiped out the indie stores by now that are surviving because of vinyl.

Nah, I don't think it was overrated. Just overpriced.
My rich buddy bought it and I borrowed it for a while and I was jealous as fuck. But aside the coolness of the object, the real deal was the content. The live stuff was incredible, especially the Seattle one from the Justice tour. But it was all great, they were in top form at the time.

I only bought that about a year ago, albeit a reissue with just the CDs and DVDs. Suits me though, I had no interest in the whole flight case & stencil malarkey.

As for the music, they were great alright, apart from the terminally dull solos and Hetfield's burgeoning love affair with the whole "OH YEAH BAYBAY!!" shit.

I'm listening to it right now, and to be brutally honest, it's better than Book of Souls.
