Post Discharge
To my mind, the best punk band of all time. I bought my first Discharge record in 1981 (WHY?) and I haven't been the same since. I thought I was playing the fucking thing at the wrong speed. I quickly bought up their previous EPs (Realities Of War, Fight Back, Decontrol) and sat back to wait what would happen next. The Never Again EP was fucking awesome but nothing could prepare one for what was to come...

This bastard is still the benchmark for punk music, IMO. It's unrelentingly remorseless in its ferocity and unyielding hatred for the subjects they criticise. Nothing comes close to this.
I'd be interested if anyone has any responses on the band.

I prefer their descendants - Wolfpack, Doom, Driller Killer, Disrupt. A case of the progeny outperforming the original imo.

I guess it's a case of "you had to be there": I bought "Hear Nothing...." a couple of years ago and it was alright, but nothing special. I may have to revisit it, though.

As above, I tend to prefer their descendants i.e. Logical Nonsense, ENT etc.

Of course I love Discharge and a lot of their D-Beat spawn.

Has anyone else seen this blog post about their Glam Metal album and disastrous US tour that followed? They've embedded a live recording were they got bottled offstage and the two guys recording it make snarky remarks in the quiet moments, it's fucking quality.

The utter shite phase. Long hair and shit metal. Bones had fucked off and Cal thought he was Robert Plant for a bit. And then Brian Johnson. Jesus...

Why? and HNSNSN are fantastic, obviously but nothing else I've heard really clicked with me. You recommended a few bits and bobs a while back Cuch, I'll have to look them up.

I don't think the d-beat sound got any better than Discharge's 1980-82 material.

I'd recommend the following:
Realities Of War EP
Fight Back EP
Decontrol EP
Never Again EP
State Violence State Control 7"
Warning: Her Majesty's Government Can Seriously Damage Your Health 12"
The Price Of Silence 7"

That blog post link is fucked for me. Do you have an alternative as I'd like to read it?

http://theappendix.net/issues/2013/7/ru ... -the-1980s

Is that any better?

Just look for the Captain Oi! reissues. They're the definitive versions of WHY, HNSNSN and Never Again (comp.) They have all the proper versions of all the single tracks. Anyway, another one from the new record...

I was confused, always thought Never Again was an official album then told it is an EP! Now I looked on wiki and find its a compilation! Its the only one I've heard so far except on punk comps. Didnt know they went glam!

Never Again was a 3-track EP Discharge released in 1981 (Never Again, Death Dealers, Two Monstrous Nuclear Stockpiles), but the cover artwork and title were used for a 1984 Discharge compilation album after the band split up. It has shit remixes. Avoid at all costs.

Reasons To Avoid Discharge...Part 1.

'Discharge' Grave New World album...
Utter shite. The music is actually quite good, but sounds nothing like a Discharge record should, with Cal's disgraceful attempt at a Robert Plant vocal.
Verdict: Good metal riffs with an unfortunate cunt on vox.
Not Discharge.

Realities Of Shite... Massacre Divine

Utter utter chuggy 'metal' with Cal attempting a Brian Johnson voice... Shitehawkery.
