Re: Morbid Angel are 'scheduling' their new album.....
TBH I lost interest after FFTTF. Listened to them all at least once but it is so!
Thats BS really, F was the last one I owned! When I got to Japan I got immersed in the J-Metal so lost track. Gateways was recently posted so I should relisten that & Heretic. (Even Sigh I had to order they didnt know them in JPN!)

Current set list -
Kawazu (Intro)
Summoning Redemption Bil Ur-Sag I Warped Nothing Is Not To The Victor The Spoils Curse The Flesh Prayer Of Hatred Covenant Of Death Praise The Strength Beneath The Hollow Ageless, Still I Am
Encore:
He Who Sleeps Umulamahri
Few more things popping up on youtube, the audio is not great overall but the drums do sound more powerful than on the previous videos, and the new boys are solid. Warped seems to be very much in the Formulas vein.

Sounds closer to Gateways to me.

I would go and see MA if there is even the slightest chance of a FFTTF heavy set. Nothing Is Not is the best song they ever wrote, that is ace that they're playing it.
I think Sandoval could be imitated/replaced, but I don't think that they will do that, they will just go for a name. Just put Tim Yeung back in there, he's good, he's alumni. OR some fuckin old school guy like Blomberg/Hellhammer.

Definitely.
Strange choices off Heretic in that setlist. No "Enshrined by grace"? It would've been great if they'd included "Invocation of the Continual One" from FFttF as well.

Been listening to the Tucker era and I think a lot of it holds up better than the Evil D era.
Re: Morbid Angel are 'scheduling' their new album.....
This was David Vincent's set in Russia...
01. Immortal Rites 02. Fall From Grace 03. Visions From The Dark Side 04. Blessed Are The Sick 05. Day Of Suffering 06. Rapture 07. Pain Divine 08. Sworn To The Black 09. Eyes To See, Ears To Hear 10. I Am Morbid 11. Maze Of Torment 12. Guitar Duel 13. Dominate 14. Where The Slime Live 15. Dawn Of The Angry 16. Blood On My Hands 17. God Of Emptiness 18. World Of Shit (The Promised Land)
"Covenant" is comfortably a better album than "Formulas Fatal To The Flesh" in my opinion. "Formulas" is seriously overrated on this forum while "Covenant" is a classic death metal album. I think "Gateways To Annihilation" is possibly the most underrated in their back catalogue. I love it & I agree with you that it's a step up from "Domination". "Heretic" just shades "Illud Divinum Insanus' for mine but there's very little in it. They're both disappointing releases.

I find covenant incredibly dull and lifeless, formulas is a five fist album for me and heretic gets better with every listen, again that's my taste really.

Covenant and Domination are both far superior to any of the Tucker albums. I've never understood the reputations they have, they sound decidedly average and formulaic to me.
Re: Morbid Angel are 'scheduling' their new album.....
Formulas is only highly praised here. The consensus is that it is very good album but not top tier.
I find it interesting that Robit and Wretch rate it so highly because it really does lack the dynamics and precise songwriting of their previous albums. At least half of the album is them going flatstick for the sake of it.
Gateways is good but lacks atmosphere, and there is nothing aa good as Where The Slime Live or Hatework on it.

Never been a fan of Covenant too much - also those LOUD DRUMS get pretty annoying quickly. Gateways sounds killer though - and I really disagree that it lacks atmosphere. It sounds so massive and otherworldly. I actually got into Formulas again as it's one of those albums I could never get into earlier and it sounds enjoyable to me nowadays, although I find the production to be a bit dry.

If you go on sales combined with reviews, then Covenant is their consensus top or second best album when it patently isn't.

It's a whole album experience in a way that none of their others are. Lyrically and in terms of concept (Deepak Chopra meets Lovecraft) and completeness, it might well be their best overall.

It does sound otherwordly at times, but i still maintain that it is a tad overproduced. Each to their own.

It's as dry as a dead dingo's donger.

I agree with this. Content on Formulas is genuinely outlandish and it is my favorite sounding record of theirs as well. It sounds so free, it's got the spirit of someone who get out of a bad relationship and flourishes. Which was about right.
No idea what people think made Heretic a good 'album'. It would have made a reasonable 6-track shorter player. The rest is them pissing about, and they didn't even do that good a job of that. 2/5 as a product. 3/5 for the actual material. Some of what made it on is really poor and shouldn't have, QC is something they seemed to lose when David Vincent left. Formulas has its shonky moments to but it's also really top-heavy with the best material. That older 'Invocations' track should have been the album closer and shoulda just been sung by Tucker and I think I'd consider it a solid 5.
