Post Combined Albums Of The Year Thread: 2016
I'm thinking of three bands here in particular: Testament, Meshuggah and Neurosis.

I've been listening to the new Testament all week and I honestly can't believe how good it is. It's their best album since The Gathering without a doubt. It's dark, heavy, fierce and brilliantly executed with some interesting knotty twists on songs like The Pale King. Sure it's nothing too different for them, but it's far more convincing than the overrated Formation and the last album, which were both very good but not quite on the same level. It's also better than anything the big four have released in a long time.

Meshuggah's new album is their best since 2005. They seemed to tread water after it, but the new one is a great consolidation of their unique style and their most engaging release in eons. I had almost given up on them too, but this is the real deal.

Neurosis' new album is arguably their best since 2004 or 1999, depending on your point of view. It has some great textures, the songs are fluidly composed, and the album hangs together as an album in a way that neither Rising or Honor didn't.

I have been wary of any views about Testament since SOB got slagged! 2 1/2 indeed! :? But found its # 9 on guitar players list so thats OK! Off course I will listen to it! (The Legacy is my favorite Testament song!) When will they open their ears? Nice to have Anthrax & Suicidal too! The skating sounds of my youth!

Not fussed with the TESTAMENT album, but I am slowly being swayed.

I'm gonna toss in CANDIRIA and OPETH.

The new Testament album is super awesome. I think over the last couple of records they've been on top form (although, personally for me, they have no bad albums). Here they go above and beyond. Same goes for Neurosis. Meshuggah i tried to get into with Chaosphere but i think i just was trying too hard to like it. But now i can absorb it more now that i'm older and see their genius.

The new Meshuggah was average, sorry.

The new Neurosis was not very noticeably better than Honor - it is mercifully shorter, that is true. Both decent albums, but samey and neither able to compete with their real stuff.

The TestAmenT I haven't heard. Is it really worth it?

The new Meshuggah is the best one since Obzen, which I liked a hell of a lot.

Agree with Opeth, but I'm sure not if the Candiria is good enough to mention just yet. It is early days.

Robit, if you like thrash with a slightly modernised touch you might dig it

Brujeria. Didn't think Brujerizmo was all that great, but I'd rate Pocho Aztlan a 4. I realise it's not to everyone's taste, but I think it's solid.

I wasn't into the last one really. On the surface it was all ok but none of it lasted at all.

My favourite comeback this year was Gehennah. More of the same, the same being proper drunk thrash metal goodness.

I found all three of those albums to be uninteresting, but then I've only given each one a single listen, so it's too early to pass judgement. Trouble is, I have little interest in listening again...

Anaal Nathrakh for me. I tapped out after Hell Is Empty but the new one's really grabbed me. Went back and listened to the intervening albums and it's definitely the high point of their last decade for me.

Post Best Albums Of 2016
Its middle of november so here we go. Or here I go 8-)

1.The Mourningside - Yellow
2.Sinistro - Semente
3.Exumer - The Raging Tides
4.Trees of Eternity - Hour Of The Nightingale [R.I.P. Aleah]
5.Nordlumo - Embraced By Eternal Night
6.Testament - Brotherhood of the Snake
7.Destroyer 666 - Wildfire
8.Son of a Witch - Thrones in the Sky
9.Blood Ceremony - Lord Of Misrule
10.Moby & The Void Pacific Choir - These Systems Are Falling [Deluxe Edition with 3 more songs]
11.God Syndrome - Controverse
12.Rotting Christ - Rituals
13.David Bowie - Blackstar [R.I.P.]
14.Inquisition - Bloodshed Across The Empyrean Altar Beyond The Celestial Zenith
15.П.Т.В.П. - Реакция
16.Truckfighters - V
17.Barren Heir - Tired Turns
18.The King Is Blind - Our Father
19.The Kills - Ashes & Ice
20.Without God - My Name Is Jesus (EP)
21.WATT SUN - Wider than the Sky
22.Alcest - Kodama

Enjoyed:

October Tide - Winged Waltz.
In Mourning - Afterglow
Insomnium - Winter's Gate
Black Sabbath - The End (EP).
Katatonia - The Fall Of Hearts

Dissapointed:

Kypck - Zero
Deftones - Gore
Anthrax - For All Kings
Deftones - Gore
Abbath - Abbath

Abbath - 'Abbath' not in my top list because it's shite but not 'real shit', just 'BM shite'. It 'could be good' but really not my cup of tea, like modern Metallica or any Autopsy stuff. Discovered mainly Marduk and some of the U.S.A. doom metal bands. This is it.

What is your favs this time?

Meshuggah I think is pretty much more of the same, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but I don't think it's any improvement on Koloss. There is nothing new or surprising on the album.
Not got round to Testament or Neurosis yet...

I'm very impressed by the new In The Woods... album. It's a lot better than I was expecting and gets better with each listen.
Opeth's new one is definitely an improvement on the previous couple.

Depends how much your expectations were for ITW. I like it, but it lacks the warmth and mystery of their previous output. The production is digital and cheap sounding.

From what I heard of the new Testament it seems a bit of a let down to be honest. I also can't get on with Meshuggah at all. Megadeth's offering was an improvement on recent efforts although was far from flawless. New Opeth certainly has more edge to it than the last two.

I wasn't really expecting much, especially the vocals. I like James Fogarty's other bands (Old Forest, Ewigkeit, not that horrible Jaldaboath thing though) but never thought his vocals were particularly notable, but he sounds really impressive on 'Pure'.

Still yet to really get to grips with the new Meshuggah. They always seem to take a few spins, but this one is taking longer than most.

The new Testament is ace.

At the moment it's fairly conclusive for me: Mariner, Cult of Luna and Julie Christmas. However, I'm still to hear some stuff I want to hear so I'm going to reserve judgement, but it's going to have to be spectacular to beat Mariner.
