Fuck, yes, it was a typo. It was 2003, the Earache Christmas party in Nottingham. Deicide, Akercocke and Return to the Sabbat in a shitty little club

I missed that due to work commitments. Was it in the Basement at Rock City, or over at the Rescue Rooms? I forget.

Dreamweaver continues to grow even now. There is a weird sound and atmosphere to that album that is almost, not "pine scented", but of the soil, a dark weighty sound that ties in perfectly with the pagan subject matter, and sets it apart from US and German thrash

Wholly agreed.

Nope. Return to the Sabbat was Martin with Fraser Craske and Simon Jones from the Dreamweaver line-up, with Jay Gordon from Skyclad on drums.

They'd only been rehearsing for a month or two by that point (and Martin had a throat infection on the tour). Dani Filth bascially got Andy Sneap drunk and coerced him into getting the band back together.

Proves Dani Filth has a use. I saw the full Dreamweaver line-up (Walkyier, Sneap, Craske, Jones and Negus) do a "secret" warm-up show in the Rig at Rock City before the Cradle support tour (I've just checked, and it was 16th December 2006), and it's easily among the top three best gigs I've ever been to.

They still didn't play Blood For The Blood God, though.

They've been fixing that on this tour:

I take it this isn't about the Japanese Sabbat?

Bastards have done more splits than Jean-Claude Van Damme.

I love "History of a Time to Come". It is one of my favourite albums. 'fraid I don't have the others much to my dismay. I see Sabbat and Martin Walkyier as a huge influence on many musicians/lyricists such as Dani/Cradle and myself.

Anyone like The Clan Destined?

Buy Dreamweaver. Don't buy the third one.

The Clan Destined are ok, Martins lyrics aren't up to his usual standards.

I really like The Clan Destined, and I think the lyrics are good - Devil For A Day in particular.

There are a few lyrical gems in there but he doesn't seem to have the bite of yore. Maybe I'm being a tad unfair though, hes obviously writing for something different from Sabbat or Skyclad, so a slightly different approach is required. He's still one of my favourite vocalists and lyricists, and he still writes stuff that resonates with me. If only he would do another Skyclad album along the lines of Folkemon...

No,although Rock City did use the Japanese Sabbat's logo on the running order poster the other night.Imagine my surprise when the singer turned out not to be a four foot tall oriental wearing only his underpants and a bullet belt.

I love Walkyier's work in Skyclad and around the time I got my first laptop I heard a few songs off of Dreamweaver and enjoyed that just as well. I haven't heard the album in a few years nor have I heard History of a time to come, but what is the story behind the band's reunion and why did they break up initially? I'm sure a few of you have seen them live back in the day, what are they like in the live setting and do you see any potential for newer material?

No chance of new material (would you want it anyway?)

History and Dreamweaver are both 5 fists. Sabbat minus Walkyier is false and shit.

What is the correct way to pronounce the name? I heard someone say saBat once but should it not be like Sabbath without the h?

Silly question is silly I know.

Post Re: Sabbat
I think they broke up because Walkyier wanted to bring in other instrumentation (like the fiddle and keys in Skyclad) and Sneap wanted to become more progressive and melodic, with more lengthy songs, so Walkyier quit. They also had a lot of financial troubles.

I read that Sneap was disappointed with 'Mourning...' partly because it didn't turn out as he hoped, and partly because it didn't really sound like Sabbat without Martin, which is why the band folded in 91.

They got back together because of Dani Filth, and to finally settle the disagreements over Walkyier doing Return To The Sabbat with Craske and Jones, and to give the band a proper ending or whatever.

I doubt they will do any new material.

I love em both, although you are absolutely correct the UK Sabbat is far more musically developed.

Yes, we noticed that too. We were wondering whether it was a deliberate dig, or whether it was just someone being clueless.

Thread bumped a) to save Robi the effort, and b) so the mods can merge the new one into it.

As much as I love Japanese bands, English Sabbat > Japanese Sabbat.
There are albums that never left the turntable/car tape when they were released and Dreamweaver is one of them. I always prefered it to History Of Time To Come. I love concept albums that sound like one song from beginning to end.
As for Skyclad, I only liked Wayward Sons but my favorite Skyclad song is their cover of Prime Evil!

I may have mentioned it before, but I wouldn't get your hopes up about another Sabbat tour or album. Last time saw Martin a mate asked him about Sabbat and he was very dismissive and seemed to imply he had little interest with working with them.

He seems more focused on his 'new' project The Clan Destined.

Does your mate live in 2002, or has TCD been rebooted?
