simply the best cover version ever.

Wouldn't say it's the best cover ever (Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower, obv), but I definitely prefer it to Jeff Buckley's hateful version of "Hallelujah", the other Q Magazine reader stalwart.

"Hallelujah" is one of the few things I've ever agreed with Sat_Rad about. The reason none of the covers are up to much is because the original song really isn't very good. You're right about it being completely overcovered; it's testament to the amount of dreadful covers of that song that the Jeff Buckley version isn't the worst. If you're feeling masochistic track down U2's awful sub-Massive Attack version.

I actually prefer the original of Hurt, but probably only because I've heard the Cash version about 521815178 times.

the original is quite dull but maybe because there were better tracks on that album. I try to avoid the overuse of Cash's version because I never want to lose the impact that song has.

The Adidas advert that used it was a travesty. I hate the way that music has become incedental in the way it's used on EVERY advert and TV programme.

Most of the Pet Shop Boys covers are great. Their versions of Coldplay's Viva La Vida (mixed with domino dancing) and My Girl by Madness have been on heavy rotation of late.

I like their version, I think they do great covers in general though.

Anthrax did crackin covers of She, Parasite, Love Her All I Can (with Gene and Paul) and Watchin You.

Yeah, its crackin, great energy and heavy as fook without losing the quirky pop sound. I think I enjoy that more than Antisocial if I'm honest, which was fucking good too. The covers of Trust and Discharge on Killer B's were fucking brilliant too.
