They wanted the original cover to look more like this but the studio lost Mustaine's sketches and then ran out of time and money.

I don't know about improved, but it's certainly an original idea:

Mentioned in the OP. A sketch of what the original cover would have looked like can be seen on their 1984 demo 'Last Rites':

The 3rd version is a definite improvement on the first two.
Can't really decide out of these two. The wolf creature thing has a certain charm about it despite being rubbish, and the logo cover is a bit boring.

The second version of that BAN is really iconic though, that's the one I prefer.

Re: Albums With Improved Reissue Covers
Another issue with the original Wolf cover is that the artist's signature is so prominent that it looks like the bloody album name.

I've always wondered why any artist would want to own up to that thing!

Good thing he didn't include a surname. Could be any old Arnold.

Apparently the 'artist' is a very famous children's books illustrator in Scandinavia. He may well be but he's still shite.

Personally I don't think this is an improvement.
Original, by Dan Seagrave:
I have no idea who did the Metal Duck side, but here it is anyway:
And I can't find a decent pic of the reissue, so here's Youtube, but this is the reissue artwork.

Re: Albums With Improved Reissue Covers
I personally don't mind the original too much, but I think the reissue is an improvement. It generally looks more menacing, and I prefer the colours as well.

No its nondescript, prefer the orig. It looks too much like the later albums. Same with Wolfheart, no improvement.

Agree, but that's blasphemy in some circles!
BLACK: The Wolfheart reissue stinks. It's so plain looking. The original cover suits the music far better.
