I've felt like some techy DM wankiness today.

Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Vol. VIII
I have conflicting feelings about The System Has Failed. At the time of its release, it felt like a revelation, a return to form. It was also supposed to be their final album, and it felt like a high note, at least for a band of their stature to go out on. But over the years, I’ve basically forgotten about it, and I rarely return to it. And it feels pretty disjointed when I do spin it. Now Playing:

Pretty damn crushing. I didn't really care about Finnish death metal before but it seems like things are changing.

N.P Megadeth Trust great song

I actually quite enjoy Cryptic Writings, ‘Trust’ being the best track on it. I think it’s sneakily one of their best latter day compositions. Now Playing: I was feeling inspired by the last Pod Minutes To Cast Night episode. I already know they are wrong about ‘Top Jimmy’.

I've never had much time for "The System Has Failed" or "Cryptic Writings" to be honest. I know this isn't a popular opinion but I actually found more to enjoy in "Dystopia" than anything they've done since "Rust In Peace".

I really haven’t bothered with anything Megadeth post- The System Has Failed. I know a lot of people really rate Dystopia, and isn’t there another mid-00s album people are pretty high on (is it United Abominations)? I think their 90s works up to Cryptic Writings are all really solid, great for more commercially minded metal. It’s streamlined but there’s still riffs galore. Now Playing:

That would be "Endgame" which is pretty decent too but I don't think it's any coincidence that it's the other record that people regard as legitimate thrash metal. Look... don't get me wrong. I don't think "Dystopia" is anything amazing but I've never subscribed to the concept of "Countdown To Extinction" being the classic that so many people seem to. Perhaps I'm just much more into the thrashier side of Megadeth & to me the only Megadeth albums that are essential are the trio from 1986 through to 1990.

I just spin the first two Megadeth albums nowadays. Could never get into So What~ and the vocals on RiP are pretty terrible. NP:

CTD isn't a classic, but it has some classic metal songs it it. The production hasn't aged sell at all. Dystopia to me just doesn't have the songs to keep me returning to it, although it's certainly decent N.P Megadeth Endgame
