See these kind of statements make no sense to me. How can a band make a 5/5 album in your eyes yet none of their other albums appeal at all? Suomi is just a slower, more melodic and mid paced version of what they had done before. Yes it's more polished and accessible, and it's a very good album, but it isn't like a totally different style.

It was the last album of theirs that received significant attention though. After that, interest in them slowly dwindled.

It's fairly self explanatory. I only like that album, and I like it a lot. See also: False by Gorefest, for example. It's possible to like just one album from a particular band and to like it quite a bit.

Testament were never really interesting (though they might have been better in a live setting). The Legacy sounds like 80's Metallica minus the good riffs. Chuck Billy was a good vocalist and that Alex guitar knew how to shred...but what's the appeal of thrash without good riffs?

:(

I quite like some of their riffs, and Skolnick is one of my favourite thrash lead guitarists, very tasteful and melodic but can still shred. Testament's early material was very influential to me as well. The only weak aspect I would agree with is Louie Clemente's drumming is very workmanlike and lacking defining characteristics.

Mr. critical-analytical is at it again! I can see why you'd say this, but some bands manage to improve for the best after a series of albums that are kinda okay-ish; the last Hooded Menace is a fantastic album (4/5 score album), despite being the only one of their discography that has really won me over so far. Usually this doesn't happen, but it's certainly possible.

ULVER - Flowers Of Evil. Tried one song but a musician I love rates it highly so I'll give it all a go. Last one I owned was that Heaven & Hell one. As for Imp Naz it would be Ugra Karma. The Damned was one of my dad's favorite bands!

The suprising thing is how Testament were good at ballads. The Ballad & The Legacy. Both goosebump central. And the best Aerosmith cover!

Nah, Guns N' Roses' cover of Mama Kin pisses on the original.

I think 'Hvis' is best. Repace that ambient piece with that Misanthropy track. (It was good to see Arcturus on here & Sigh even though it was Jedward. I do like it though.)

Often had trouble sitting through Burzum's classic stuff in one go but this album seems to do it for me now. Hvis has an excellent opener but the rest just lacked something. That ambient track at the end can fuck off for real.

TBH me too! I have no need to listen to that folk album again & why listen to their next album manufactured to sound raw? I think Arcturus were better even tho they embraced rap. (Dont know VS may as well listen to a bad album) ^ Thats horrid!

The stuff that they released after wasn't bad, just not my thing.

VS were incredible in the 90s, even then they had their flaws though (mainly their production jobs). Nowadays it's all about the singer who relies on auto-tune and can't restrain himself anymore with hardly any interesting guitar riffs, or hooks left in sight. If you're interested in trying the band out, check The Marriage of Heaven and Hell series - they'd be a good introduction to the band.

Funny how Ihsahn & Ulver are going back to the 80's! Back to OBSIDIAN. I am not suprised I was unable to post my word salad review so I will try another. Maybe its already old (metal albums have the same lifespan as pop singles these days)
