N.P SOAD Toxicity. First time I've heard this album in full in a while. It has not really stood up that well for me. My first impression was that it was a weaker, more sanitised and produced album of their debut, then I eventually warmed to it. Now my impression is somewhere in the middle. Some good songs (e.g. Deer Dance), many throwaway ones (e.g. Shimmy, X etc), some cringeworthy attempts at social commentary (e.g. Science).

Overall, I'm utterly flabbergasted that so many people prefer this to their debut. Their debut is one of a kind and has an explosive energy to it, even to this day. Perhaps if you are working through a conventional music checklist it's better (i.e. cleaner production, greater emphasis on melody etc), but it's just so safe sounding, and the follow ups are even more slick and conventional. Serj is just not a great singer. Don't care how many vocal layers are supporting him. His melodies are not that good. He is better at 'startling' rather than singing.

One of the band's actual great songs and it's a god damn demo. (Yes, I'm aware a re-arranged version exist, but that one sucks). This actually has great riffs.

^ Could never get into that band because of the nasal vocals.

^ I've only heard the first two albums - only like the second one. Would I miss much by refraining from checking anything further?

Cover artwork looks like the adult version of FW's Awaken the Guardian.

Anyone here likes the ''post-classic'' Darkthrone stuff?

Crazy to think that this came out in 1985. Seriously something ahead of its time.
