 Re: QOTSA 'Villains' official thread....
Interesting that nobody mentioned Ronson's involvement. He isn't a rock producer. He works with pop and R+B artists. e.g Lady Gaga, Amy Winehouse etc

It's 'available' now, in case anyone's interested. I'm not, and unless some ridiculously positive reviews appear, I doubt I'll bother.

^ hmmmm.... Pretty distinctive - no doubt about that. The fast bit at the end sounds tacked on. I dunno.
This album seems more shambolic than Like Clockwork so far.

I'm three tracks in and thinking that Homme is taking the fucking piss. He's made his equivalent to "The Soft Parade" or even "Supercharger"...

I haven't heard it yet but I haven't seen too many positive things being said about it thus far so I'm not in any hurry.

 Re: QOTSA 'Villains' official thread....
That is pretty bad. The music just sounds like a band (or a person) who is bored.

 Re: QOTSA 'Villains' official thread....
For me of the ones I've heard, which is everything apart from the new one):
QOTSA - 4 fists Rated R - 4 fists Songs For The Deaf - 5 fists ( I even love the radio interludes) Lullabies... - 2 fists Era Vulgaris - 3 fists ... Like Clockwork - 3 fists
This is probably a symptom/product of my age and the time at which I started getting into rock music, but QOTSA have always clicked with me far more readily than Kyuss. Don't get me wrong, 'Welcome To Sky Valley' is a classic, but I basically never go back to anything else in their catalogue and find most of it average at best.
Looking forward to the new one. I liked the first single and, although it's fucking risky getting Ronson in (also says a fair bit about what the band are hoping to do with the record IMO), he's a killer producer within his realm and if the writing is good enough it could be really killer.

 Re: QOTSA 'Villains' official thread....
I always thought the radio interludes in Songs For The Deaf were rather amusing personally (KLON Radio - we play more music that sounds like everyone else than anyone else!). I like Kyuss too, although Blues For The Red Sun is my go-to album for them.

The radio interludes in SFTD are amusing and make the album for me, they just link it all together incredibly well and give it a flow and a loose concept feel. The record wouldn't be the same without them.
