This phrase makes me agree with Was and his "boxes, boxes" annoyance. I don't mind Alcest, but that's just silly.

not so silly when its basically my bloody valentine done with a hint of BM

Like I said, it's not the music, it's the phrase. "Ambient Black Shoegaze". Seriously, say it out loud, and see how it makes you feel.

it's got an ambient atmosphere.
it has black metal guitar sound and occasional blastbeats/shrieking vocals.
It has the melodic tunes and heavily reverbed vocals of shoegazing.

IT'S AMBIENT BLACK SHOEGAZING FER FECK'S SAKE!

This is just a label which helps to describe the music, right? I could say it's like Alcest, Les Discrets or Fauna, is that better? ;-)

And Richie, yep it arrived yesterday or the day before, not had a chance to listen yet, I have only heard 4 or 5 songs on there so it should have some cool shit on it! Thanks!

Surely that new Alcest album cannot be called Black Metal, in any way.

Its like elevator music.

Only if elevators are the name for bedrooms of men who weep on their floppy dicks.

I'm fairly sure I had a track by a stoner/metal band called Green Dragon on a compilation I lost ages ago. Good stuff but I can't find any info on them. Did I imagine them?

Nope. Beauty and truth exist. They're there to discover in art and music in ever more subtle and wonderful ways. Following fickle whims and capricious personal preferences won't reveal real quality and lasting beauty in art and music.

This looks sexy...

ABSU's "Barathrum: V.I.T.R.I.O.L" will be re-released on triple vinyl via The Crypt during the latter part of summer.

"Barathrum: V.I.T.R.I.O.L" was ABSU's first full-length album in 1993 for Gothic Records, which later secured the band a deal with its longtime label home Osmose Productions (before signing with Candlelight Records). This LP was the naissance of their blended style called "mythological occult metal."

The album's title is a Latin-based analogical acronym meaning Barathrum: Visita Interiora Terrae Rectificando Invenies Occultum Lapidem, which is translated as "The Abyss: We shall visit the interior parts of earth, by rectification; thou shall find the hidden stone."

The vinyl edition is limited to only 500 numbered copies (300: marbled black/red & 200: black) and comes on triple 180-gram vinyl. It will be packaged in a deluxe heavyweight gatefold sleeve featuring additional artwork by Polish artist Zbigniew Bielak (WATAIN, DESTROYER 666). The vinyl edition also features a 16-page booklet with never-before-seen photos and exclusive liner notes penned by drummer/vocalist Proscriptor, a timeline and a two-sided 24" x 36" poster.
