Tell you what, I'll text you when I hear anything about that.

Seeing as your so keen, I'll buy some blank CDs when I get paid, and see if I can get my mp3 onto one as data, and I'll send you that.

You don't have to do that, Crom. Sorry for being a knob over things you have no control.

Lazy hippie cunt.

It's no problem, as I'll probably buy the CDs anyway as that's what I put all my downloads on. I was going to do Monty a copy that way anyway, so it's no hassle to do one more.

That's the thing though, probably not that many people would. Plus, as Was said, I think the skulls weren't that cheap.

Harker who designed and made the skulls sells them as art pieces anyway, and the ones for Sab are adapted from his original design, which also would have cost Earache extra money. The last thing they'd want is to have 500 made, bearing in mind it's a ridiculously unlistenable track by an obscure band, and then not sell them. They're too fragile to go in shops, so the way they've been sent out is pretty cool I think. It's basically a short run in order to be a promo tool.

Plus I got one... haha!

I feel the opposite. How else to handle such a long piece of music? I was sceptical at first and thought it was silly, but when the whole "document your listening experience" thing came about I thought it was a genuinely novel and modern way to handle it. I certainly hold it in higher regard than his "WORLD'S SHORTEST ALBUM" record store day gimmick, or some of his crappy signings in recent years. It got people talking about Earache as well as Sabzius and The Descent Of Man itself, and sets him and them up to do future things. Probably.

This is pretty much my view too. Whilst shortest album is a cool idea, Earache have already pioneered Grind and extremity in that regard.

Digby didn't say "alright lads, fancy doing a gimmick?" If he just wanted the longest song ever, he could have put us, or any band for that matter, in a studio for three weeks and you could easily make a song five days long. Nev found a drone song that's 50,000 hours! The whole point in this was that it was done live in one take, and to just see what happened. I personally think that's interesting in itself, and I'm just chuffed it was me that got to do it, rather than reading someone else doing it and thinking "that sounds like fun".

As such, off the back of that idea, I think the way Earache have used the skulls adds to the way it was overall an interesting project and a bit of a one off. It's certainly caused a mixed reaction, and it's probably had more negative comments than positive, especially on youtube, but at 21,000 hits it's certainly been good publicity for the label, and it's been extraordinary for us.

Digby's also been quite interested seeing how the whole of digital distribution for music hasn't been able to cope with a file as long as the song is. Had we actually done 24 hours then it wouldn't have even left the studio in Wales apparently, as they had to take two mono versions from Chris Fielding, and then get someone to put the two halves back together again. Youtube was pretty unhappy about a file of that length being uploaded too.

If we can keep the ball rolling then it'll have been a great opportunity for us, plus I really like Descent as a song, so regardless of how things pan out, I'm really happy with it all.

Just enjoy it on YouTube.

Buy me a computer good enough to stream an 11 hour track on YouTube without lagging ans speakers good enough to hear it properly.

No, I do actually agree with your position here, Was, and I'm not whining at all. I made a deliberate decision to not listen to it on YouTube, and though I was disappointed when I realised that was probably going to stop me getting one of the skulls, I could have gotten around it if I really wanted to, but listening to the song in a way that I thought was best was more important to me than getting a physical object. As you said, I think the "document your listening experience" thing was a nice idea, and probably the best thing to do with an album that was always going to be seriously niche interest.

Anyway, I think I asked this before, but I can't remember what the answer was - does anyone know a programme that will allow me to convert itunes tracks into regular MP3s? I'm very happy to buy it on itunes (even to download fucking itunes to do it, though it's getting uninstalled straight after), but I use a non-Apple mp3 player.

I think Sound Forge will do it for you, though you'll probably have to find a cracked version to do it (the free/demo version either won't let you work with mp3s or will only let you do it so many times). Failing that, there are free file conversion softwares out there. Whether they'll let you work with AAC files, I'm not sure.

You could also try a youtube to mp3 converter online. I tried it once with the song, and it didn't work, but you might have more luck.

No, I already tried that - I can't find any that are prepared to handle something over about 20 minutes long.

Sol - I'll have a look for Soundforge later, cheers.

I have now listened to Descent Of Man, over the space of two days. I love it, predictably, though I need more goes to properly digest it. Second half is the hardest and most rewarding, and I imagine that listening in one go would make it even more so. It is what it is - if huge amounts of feedback and semi-improvised, repetitive riffing doesn't do it for you you won't like it, but it's a great addition to their catalogue and definitely more than a shit gimmick.

Like I said, did it in under two days (while at work, so basically all my spare time) and enjoyed the whole thing, I meant more that, contrary to what a lot of people said, I found the Doomier second half more gruelling than the Noisier first. First three hours were captivating.

All our songs are now up on youtube, thanks to some very kind people, especially our very own Mo, and Nev has done the final ones.

The blog has been updated too and looks all nice now (Nev being unemployed is great! He's written a new song too!)

This will be out as a free download very soon, and the physical copies have very nearly gone.

Yeah it is. I bought it for the Hesper track, but ended up liking the Sabazius track more. Not to say the Hesper Payne track isn'y awesome too.

I'm hoping Brooke moves down south soon. I said I'd help Hesper do some live shows if he wanted. Mainly it's because I want to hear Titans played live!

It's only so long before we do a fossil concept band, we're both so fucking sad...

Reading archaeology notes is pretty much all I'm doing for Origin, which is possibly why Nev keeps making me re-do things.

*Duuuuuuuuuuuum!!!!!!!*

Then in grid 4A there is evidence of Neolithic flint tool production, emphasised by the finding on one flint scraper woth a bulb of percussion on the right hand side suggesting the tool worker was right handed."

*Daaaaa, duuuuuuuunnnn!!!!!*

In grid 4B there are flakes from the flint working in 4a, suggesting the flint flakes spread in this manor and confirming the evidence of a right handed flint knapper. In addition is a small piece of pottery, undecorated, and so possibly inferring the Windmill Hill type ceramics of use during this phase of occupation.
