Post Metal Academy Podcast
Hi everyone. My younger brother & I have been obsessive metalheads since the late 80's & are responsible for a podcast called "Metal Academy" which sees us chronologically exploring all of the great metal releases since the genres inception. "Metal Academy" includes critical coverage of three main feature records per episode & we conduct a detailed investigation into the stories, the personalities, the artwork, the lyrics, the production, the musicianship, the songwriting, the reception, the legacy.... everything you would want to know. We also look at what else was going on in the world of heavy music at the time. We've released four episodes so far & are aiming for a once a month release schedule at this stage. "Metal Academy" is available through iTunes or through the below link. Your feedback would be most welcome.

This month's show includes features on Judas Priest's "British Steel" as well as Iron Maiden & Angel Witch's seminal self-titled debut albums. Maybe I've been bad and just ignored all the Shameless Plugs threads for some time, but I will definitely be having a listen to these. Podcasts have become my 'get through washing the dishes' coping mechanism, so I'm always searching for some good ones.

Hi everyone. I’m very pleased to announce yesterday’s release of episode 12 of “Metal Academy” podcast (through iTunes, Stitcher or the below link) which closes out our trilogy of shows covering the year 1982. On this particularly evil episode you’ll find feature-length discussions on Danish heavy metallers Mercyful Fate’s self-titled debut EP, Venom’s highly influential sophomore effort “Black Metal” & the self-titled demo tape from NWOBHM doomsters Pagan Altar. We’ll also discuss releases from Warning (Fra), Picture, Plasmatics, The Rods, Virgin Steele, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, Samson & Satan & sadly say goodbye to one of the great lead guitarists in metal history. Plus our top fives for 1982 & a lot of laughs. We hope you enjoy the show as much as we’ve enjoyed making it.

Hi everyone. It’s with great pleasure that I bring you episode 14 of “Metal Academy” podcast; the second of four huge shows to cover the year 1983 (available through iTunes, Stitcher or the below link). This month’s feature releases are the debut record from NWOBHM warriors Satan entitled “Court In The Act”, former Rainbow & Black Sabbath vocalist Ronnie James Dio’s classic first solo effort under the Dio moniker “Holy Diver” & the earliest descendant in the thrash metal family tree; Metallica’s debut album “Kill ‘Em All”. It’s a significant moment for Ben & I as this show sees us finally reaching the real birth place of the extreme metal movement. We’ll also cover NWOBHM releases from Battleaxe, Tank, Chateaux & Witchfinder General, catch up with some of the forefathers of metal in Motorhead & Ozzy Osbourne, peruse the best that the US heavy metal scene had to offer with Steeler & Jag Panzer & visit the darkest depths of early black metal with seminal Swiss outfit Hellhammer. Join us as we dissect all the highs & lows of this genre we love so much.

It's with an evil laugh & a devious grin that I announce this afternoon's release of episode 16 of "Metal Academy" podcast (available through iTunes, Stitcher or the below link). This month's installment is the last of four huge episodes to cover the year 1983 with feature articles on US epic metallers Manilla Road's breakthrough third record "Crystal Logic", the fifth full-length from German heavy metal stalwarts Accept entitled "Balls To The Wall" & the debut studio album "Show No Mercy" from thrash metal legends Slayer. We'll also be closing out the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal movement (including our top tens) & discussing noteworthy releases from Ritual, Tokyo Blade, Grim Reaper, Savage, Riot, Savatage, Torch, Maniac & Hellhammer. And don't forget our year end top tens for 1983 of course. It's a huge show with something for every respectable metalhead. We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we did making it.

YES!! It's finally heeeeerrreee!!!! Episode 17 of "Metal Academy" podcast was released this evening (on iTunes, Stitcher or the below link) & it sees Ben & I beginning a new journey in the first of five episodes to cover the year 1984. On this month's show we'll journey to Europe to take a look at all of the new heavy metal bands that were popping up out of the German underground. Then we'll race over to the United States to examine the impact of the local hard rock & glam metal scene on our beloved heavy metal sound. And to finish up we'll get a bit more epic & give you a taste of the more aggressive direction the Americans were starting to push in the wake of the NWOBHM. Our feature records are Dio's "The Last In Line", W.A.S.P.'s self-titled debut album & Cirith Ungol's "The King Of Dead" but we'll also be discussing releases from Stormwitch, Warlock, Grave Digger, Running Wild, Spinal Tap, Wendy O. Williams, Twisted Sister, Dokken & Medieval Steel. It's fast, it's fun.... shit it's just plain bad ass so put on your thinking caps people. It's time for the "Metal Academy".
