I prefer Burr's playing, too but Bruce > D'ianno, no question.

Of course, don't get me wrong, I'd never suggest Bruce was in any way inferior from a technical sense. But I just feel I prefer to listen to Di'anno's rough around the edge voice these days. I just feel there's more of a charm to it.
I know they just sounds like stock phrases to justify a poor singer :P

In their defence.... overall Maiden are probably better than Metallica post 1988.

Probably?

Even Dance Of Death is better by far than anything Metallica have put out since then, you cloth-eared spaz.

Why does everyone hate DOD, it's clearly the second best reunion Maiden album.

1. Brave New World
2.

In fact there's no point listing them, they've just got worse each time.

Powerslave was one of the first metal albums I ever heard, its a great heavy metal album with well thought out melodic hooks and Dickinson's great vocals.

Truth! For me it was one the first albums which was like looking into another world. The cover art, the actual album name, the music of course, the whole thing was a ticket to a dark, thrilling adventure. It's an excellent, excellent album that undoubtedly deserves 5 skeleton Eddie fists punching a hole through the straitjacket and the mental asylum wall.

Re: the use of Eddie, Statters. SSoaSS was the last album where he was a really interesting conceit on the cover and album art throughout.

I don't hate it, but it's the one most people seem to rate the least, and I do think it's the weakest of the reunion albums overall. Still three fists with some four fist songs on it, and better than anything Metallica have even thought about since at least AJFA.

'The Rainmaker' is better than any song Metallica have written in 20 years

I strongly believe it's the cover. It's shit and it taints people's perception of the contents... look at Cold Lake that had a shit cover, and St Anger... if Raining Blood had a shit cover then it would be a different story. Well that's my take on it.

The title track, when it smashes in after the intro and drum roll - possibly the most metal moment of their career.

Absolutely. It's one of those songs that never suffers from overplaying. I love how the chorus builds too. It's just magic. As far as I can remember my experience of Maiden was seeing the video for "bring your daughter" then Can I play with Madness then Holy Smoke onto buying Fear of the Dark. So people will say I picked up on their worst era but for me it's special.

I remember taping a performance from BBc2 I think back in around 92? Possibly Bruces last performance. It had that illusionist Clive something? from Secret Cabaret involved. That was my introduction to their older material. Anyone know if that was released on dvd?

Listened to final frontier in the car, solid 4 fist album with some amazing guitar solo's, and if you don't feel even a little emotional during 'coming home' then you are either a robot or japanese, or both.

I think the Final Frontier is a great album, but only after the first three tracks. It's not that TFF, "Eldorado", and "Mother of Mercy" are poor songs, they are just a bit meh, IMO. The rest of the album after that is solid 4 fister, with "The Talisman", "the Man Who Would be King" and "Where the Wild Wind Blows" being 5s.

I like Mother of Mercy, but I agree that the first two tracks are the weakest.

A song that almost perfectly exemplifies every hackneyed cliche, excess and bad idea that they have use from time to time since 1990. The DOD title track was the best example of these before this one came along to trump it.

Eldorado's alright, it's just longer than it needs to be and a bit plodding. It wouldn't be so glaring if it wasn't the second track on the album (and the first one we ever heard), but it's not a terrible album track.
