I'm not sure even sure if I had given this album a spin in its entirely before. So far it doesn't sound bad - and this is coming from a person who's not a fan of groove metal.

I haven't listened to that in years but the last time I did (5/6 years ago), it sounded quite dated to my ears. Might have been a case of overplaying it at the time, and/or association with times/places. Either way, I only go for the preceding three albums these days.
Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Vol. VIII
Just finished it. It's probably not for me, not that I hate it or anything but I can't say I felt excited thorough the record.
NP:
I'm aware the guitars were out of tune on this record, but man, there's such a hellish atmosphere present that you just wouldn't find on their later works anymore.

I'd give that 1/5, it's just awful. Its only saving grave is that it's not as poor as Bestial Devastation.

It's a bit good.

I didn't care about the early material I had heard of this band but this new track sounds really good. Melodic yet riff-driven with a bit of an epic twist to it.

The guitar sound dates it a bit. Has that Metal Zone type sound. The drums and vocals still sound great though and there are some cracking songs, but I also overplayed it then and rarely feel the need to return to it.

It's a 5 fist album, but I have listened to it less as the years have gone by. It blew my mind the first time I heard it, but it kind of puts everything in the shop window at once, if you get what I mean. Still really good for an energetic "fuck the bastards!" type of listen.
NP: Opeth. I'm doing my periodical thing of seeing whether I can get into them, by going through their stuff on Youtube. Currently listening to Morningrise, and it's good in parts, but meanders a fair bit in others. That said I do tend to find the first two albums more interesting in terms of vibe and the fact that there's some Maiden-esque guitar lines in the mix.

These guys liked early Sepultura quite a bit.

My copy recently died. Succumbed to disc rot. Hadn't spun it in quite some years. I found it a bit confusing when it first came out. I liked the hardcore-ish tracks (Biotech is Godzilla, The NMA cover), but the tribal stuff was just fucking dull. Shouldn't have been quite so surprised when Roots turned out to be such a stinking turd.

I've heard that Max wrote the lyrics using a Portuguese to English dictionary, which makes me wish they actually published them to see if they're as mangled as when Japanese bands sing in English
NP: Been into these for a while but I only found out recently that the singer of this band is the younger brother of the singer from Refused

That seems to be true. I find it hilarious that ''From the Past Comes the Storms'' used to be called ''The Past Reborns the Storms'' until Max got told the words didn't make any sense like that.
NP:
Second fine album I've heard of 2018 so far - I have the idea there's more interesting stuff coming up that I'm not aware of yet.

I dont really get the love for pre-BTR Seps. To me it just sounds amateurish. It doesn't cool like early second wave black metal. It just sounds crude.
