When did Machine Head lose the plot?
Just to say that I've got no real interest in MH's music outside of the odd song, but it does seem to be a rather constant debate as to when people think they began or stopped sucking. So here's the poll....

The Burning Red. There're some decent songs on it but overall it was a creative, trendhopping nosedive, the first of many in their/his career.

Re: When did Machine Head lose the plot?
As much as I like TBR, I'd have to agree with Sol. Losing the plot is a bit harsh, but it was the first MH album that had serious flaws and revealed the chinks in their armour.
They were never as sure footed as they were on their first two albums again, not even on Ashes, which I highly rate, or The Blackening, which is good but damn overrated.

The Burning Red. There have been some decent albums since, but nothing matches the first 2.

Re: When did Machine Head lose the plot?
They fell into the nu metal trap, decided it wasn't for them and tried switching back to regular metal. They broke the code of metal. Something there is no redemption from.

There was a plot? Other than jumping on every conceivable bandwagon in order to make a few bob. Insufferably shit band.

Voted 'Shellsuits...', but we're really talking around 'The Burning Red', but the nadir is 'Supercharger' (or perhaps even the newest one?). That period in particular, the nu-metal era, even though they never fully embraced it, is enough to leave anyone with a bitter taste in their mouths.

Re: When did Machine Head lose the plot?
Thing is their nu metal material was actually good (for nu metal). They should have stuck with copying Korn instead of Pantera.

Re: When did Machine Head lose the plot?
I voted for "The Burning Red". I don't have much time for "The More Things Change..." but I'm not sure I'd say that they'd lost the plot at that stage. Having said that I didn't think their pair of mid-2000's albums were all that bad though.

I'm firmly in the "everything after Burn my Eyes is shit" camp.
