Yeah I agree. Ridiculous musicianship. When we covered "From The Fjords" on "Metal Academy" episode 4 I said that it was a combination of the heavy metal of Black Sabbath, the progressive rock of Yes & the jazz fusion of Mahavishnu Orchestra. It was a real shame about the poor production & an even bigger shame that this was Legend's only release. I'm interested to know if you agree with me that it's a) the first legitimate metal album to come from a US band & b) the earliest example of progressive metal.

I suppose it's one of the earliest, but weren't Riot's 70s stuff also examples of early US metal? Not sure if I'd call it a prog metal release, but again, it's definitely one unique album.

I don't consider the first couple of Riot albums to be metal. They definitely fit much more comfortably under the hard rock banner. "Fire Down Under" was Riot's first legitimate metal album in my opinion.

Fair enough. I don't listen to Riot anymore so little do I know or care.

Each album from what I've heard from them so far, has some highlights on it and some shit on it, too. I do admire their unique sound though.

It seems like The Chasm's post 90's albums aren't my thing at all. To me this just lacks the magic of their earlier stuff.

I've liked nothing I've heard from them TBH. Ditto Cirith Ungol, who I always associate with MR for some reason.
