Mountains, Myth & Murder", the fourth full-length incantation by the Danish experimental metal act PICTURE ANN, is available for download and streaming on Bandcamp and Soundcloud. Musically and lyrically, the album covers quite a lot fo ground and yet the main themes associated with PICTURE ANN, namely longing and loneliness, are always at the forefront and course through the veins of this cursed thing at all times. Forlorn melodies, hypnotic riffs, awful synthesizers, and a total lack of production; it is all there for the taking. It will ruin your day and leave you somewhere terrible, but is that not what we all want and desire anyway?
While the trilogy ("Mountains", "Myth", and "Murder") is a moody and haunting exploration of the German expedition to Tibet in 1938-1939, other tunes explore the nameless guilt that is present in Edgar Allan Poe's timeless writings ("Dystopian Logic"), the Royal Conspiracy theory in relation to Jack the Ripper ("The Abberline Diary That Never Was"), and the soothing effect of listening to Marianne Faithfull's nicotine-stained voice on a melancholy night in June while mending old wounds ("Gasmask Ballet – The Extended Cut"). All songs were composed, recorded, and left un-mixed by J.N. on stormy nights.
Tracklist: 1. Anna Liked Dying Places 2. Mountains 3. Myth 4. Murder 5. In Cipher 6. Dystopian Logic 7. The Abberline Diary That Never Was 8. Wolves I Knew 9. Gasmask Ballet – The Extended Cut
PICTURE ANN "Blindness and Insight" single out now!
The 2016 Halloween release by the experimental outfit that is PICTURE ANN, this 2-track single contains two of the most dynamic and strangely beautiful tunes ever produced by the band:
Featuring the vocal talents of Morfeus (Dimension F3H, Viper Solfa, ex-Mayhem, ex-Limbonic Art), "Murder (VoxRemix)" is the strangest and most compelling musical ritual by PICTURE ANN to date. This tune will haunt and possess you!
New album from the experimental Danish metal entity: "The August Client"
Picture Ann is back with a brand new studio album that is as haunting and morose as ever. It consists of two compositions that revolve around hypnotic, melancholic, and repetitive motifs and yet they are riddled with nuances, layers, and dark textures.
J.N.: “The perfect soundtrack to either those long, lonely nights of yours that you so detest or an epic walk in the mountains. Either way, this is one album you do not want to miss out on. While the floating and ambient-like title track possesses an otherworldly vibe, the 31-minute long tune that is "Builders" is a strange and unsettling journey through different musical ideas and concepts relating to sacrifice, longing, and greatness.”
The album was released digitally via Bandcamp and YouTube on Friday the 25th of August:
Rarely have PICTURE ANN sounded as organic and dynamic as they do on "Metastasizing Angel", the January 2018 digital single by the ever-elusive masters of experimental black metal, minimalistic rock, and strange, unsettling ambient music. This is dark, cinematic rock at its finest!
PICTURE ANN “GUILT” DIGITAL SINGLE OUT NOW The latest digital single by the Danish weirdos PICTURE ANN is out now. Entitled “Guilt”, the tune is a mellow 3-minute piece with a melancholy and strangely medieval vibe to it that encompasses feelings of longing and loneliness. The song can be streamed via Spotify, Bandcamp, Deezer, Amazon, and all the other scummy digital retailers out there.
To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the experimental Danish ambient/rock entity PICTURE ANN, the brand new album “Strange Forces” has been made available as a free download via Bandcamp
Picture Ann was spawned back in 2009 with the aim of composing and recording lo-fi metal/ambient/minimalistic rock music rather intuitively and on the spur of the moment. Raw, unfiltered crap, really. A long line of singles, EPs, and albums have seen the light of day since then with the compilation entitled "Its Wild Beauty", which came out in late 2018 and ruined Christmas for everybody, being the latest release. To commemorate the 10th anniversary of Picture Ann, the sinister 2-track digital record entitled “Strange Forces” has been made available as a free download via Bandcamp.
J.N.: “The ominous and somewhat creepy "Strange Forces" is directly inspired by Bram Stoker's bizarre gothic horror novel entitled "The Lair of the White Worm" and serves as a homage to this underrated piece of literature.”

Following the recent release of the full-length album entitled “Strange Forces”, April 1 sees the release of a brand new single named “Bloodlines”, which was composed and recorded in rehearsals back in 2018.
J.N.: “Bloodlines is arguably the most organic and lively composition by Picture Ann to date. It was the result of a fruitful and downright mesmerizing jam-session that took place back in 2018. The ever-awesome Dan Ponce wrote the words for the piece and the entire thing revolves around the burden of legacy and the dark underbelly of heritage”.

Raw, unfiltered crap, really. A long line of singles, EPs, and abums have seen the light of day since then with the sinister single that is “Bloodlines” being the latest proper release by the outfit. But fear not as September 30 this year sees the release of the 2-track digital EP entitled “Known Curses” which is available as a download/stream via all the usual digital retailers out there such as Amazon, Bandcamp ,Deezer, Spotify, and the likes. It will serve as a lousy soundtrack to the gloom of Fall that is slowly creeping up on us.
J.N.: “Known Curses essentially reinterprets two rather old compositions of mine, and these reworked renditions of the tunes are radically different to their predecessors not to mention that “Devastating Dante” features completely different lyrics written by the ever-reliable Dan Ponce”.
The latest digital single by the experimental metal weirdos Picture Ann evocatively entitled 'The Yellow Book of December' is out now - just in time to ruin Christmas for all of you this year - and the tune reeks of horror and all the vile things that make life worth leaving. Boasting slightly more straightforward and simple song structures and arrangements compared to many past compositions by the outfit, this moody and memorable new offering is an exploration of the darkest recesses of the human mind. The single can be streamed via all the digital retailers and whatnot out there, including the ones below.

The latest collection of moody songs by the ever-unreliable lo-fi ambient/metal/minimalistic rock outfit PICTURE ANN is out now via Bandcamp and YouTube for your digital pleasure. Entitled The Gray EP and consisting of four bleak and relatively short pieces, these compositions were primarily designed to reflect a sense of longing and loneliness inspired by the Dark Romantic writers of old.
Tracklist: 1. Compressed Lines of Loneliness 2. Casket Removal Part II (The Extended Cut) 3. Horrid King 4. Gray
The experimental ambient/metal collective outfit that is PICTURE ANN has been rather productive as of late and released the somewhat bleak digital EP named “Idris and Isolation” on April 16. Containing one long, hypnotic piece that runs for nearly 16 minutes, "Idris and Isolation" is directly inspired by Mary Shelley's dystopian work of superb and thought-provoking fiction titled "The Last Man", which is still eerily relevant today. With an emphasis on simple, morose melodies and a desolate, windswept atmosphere, there is a strange and silent beauty to PICTURE ANN’s latest output that makes it one of the most heartfelt creations by the weird musical entity so far.
“Idris and Isolation” was released on April 16, 2020 by Floodgate Moods Productions.
