Post Re: In The Post
I don’t know if this is related in anyway, but the limited edition vinyl pressing industry seems to be doing a great job of gouging money from a great many fools. I enjoy it when they tell me that the 180g splatter disc that they keep in the shrink wrap as not to devalue it (and I wouldn’t want to devalue it if I paid $200 for it), sounds better. Obviously I’m being facetious, but when fetishising of the product becomes more important than its content, it gone a bit too far.

Indeed, and the hipster element can't be ignored. Fetishisation of the format, marketing it as a cult item (see: cassette- or vinyl-only releases) is straight out of the hipster handbook and, considering early metal and rock were traditionally seen as 'working class' genres, it's a bit silly to have inferior formats priced up as they are. That said, I have no pity for the people who are foolish enough to play along and throw money at these arseholes.

Post Re: In The Post
Other reasons why CD > Vinyl...
1. The original CD of Altars Of Madness has 'Lord Of All Fevers And Plague' on it. The original vinyl does not.
2. 'Symphonaire Infernus Et Spera Empyrium' is split over two sides on the original 12". Very possibly the stupidest 12" ever released.
3. 'Soul Sacrifice' does not appear on the vinyl version of Forest Of Equilibrium.
4. If you're a Nile fan, you can only get the track 'Sss Ha Set Yoth' on CD. The Jap version, specifically.
5. The original vinyl version of Sabbat's Dreamweaver sounds like utter fucking shite on vinyl. No matter how much you spent on your stupid turntable.
That's just off the top of my head...

Just curious Sol, but just noticing that you’re getting a lot of stuff through the post, are you only getting stuff domestically? There is some stuff I’m interested in ordering, but it’s ordering from overseas, and seeing as things are understandably a bit slow on that front, I’m a bit reticent to pull the trigger. I know we’re on different sides of the world, just interested if you have any thoughts.

Domestically (there's a label based just 20 miles away from me that I've only recently discovered, I've been buying a lot from them) and from the U.K. & mainland Europe. Delivery's taking a bit longer than usual but pretty much everything's getting here.

Granted, nothing has to travel too far to get to me. I had bought a CD on Discogs from a seller in Bulgaria, he told me he couldn't post it 'til their lockdown ended (no post out of the country), and he refunded me straight away.

The only real issue I've had was with a CD I bought on Ebay in mid-April, coming from Australia. It never showed - when I queried it after a month, I was told that post was going out by sea and taking longer as a result, which is fair enough but I'd been given no warning of this. As of today it's been 11 weeks and no sign so I've given up on it. To be fair, she's refunded me and asked me to pay her if it shows, which I will but I'm not hopeful.

Yeah, I’m looking at getting something from the US. It does come with a free digital copy, so at least I’d be getting something in the interim. The post here is not only affected by the pandemic, but they have also cut delivery and transport. Usually I’d try to source locally (there’s a really great distro in the town I’m in), but unfortunately the more niche stuff is not usually readily available.

I've gotten stuff from the US and Germany over the last few weeks. Didn't seem to take any longer to me

I’m clearly not a gambler, but I might go for it - worst case I’m still getting the digital download.

Vile Creature T-shirt.

Bought it 8 days ago, arrived today from Germany, which is about what you'd expect.

Anthrax: Among The Living deluxe edition (CD/DVD)
Therapy?: We're Here To The End (2CD)

It only took 11½ weeks for the Anthrax to arrive, and of course it came 2 days after I'd received a refund.
