Teaching in Tavistock was a fucking eye-opener for me. School of 1,500 kids
How many of them were related?

Actually, it was more like 1,200, thinking on, but it was quite a fucking lot. They were all their own sisters.

Does it still have that reputation? last time i was down there it was quite multi-cultural compared to 15/20 years ago.
That's what I'm told, I've only been there once and there was a fair mix of black and white, some asian people.
Eltham has the same sort of reputation even though it's quite multi-cultural now.

People always talk bollocks about places they've never been. People say Lewisham is dangerous and I've not really had any problems and find it quiet and almost provincial. If I was a black teenage boy I dare say it would be a lot more dangerous.

A lot of my Family live in and around Lewisham, Catford, Brockley, Peckham and i don't think any of them has had any problems. I'm just glad i grew up when i did and not now as that whole area is a hot bed of gangs these days, probably not as bad as the press would have us believe though.

Things do happen, a boy was stabbed to death in the little park outside the police station about three years ago. Those two students who were tortured to death were living in New Cross and a girl was killed in cross fire there too. But frankly I'm oblivious to the gang phenomena. That said I only live in the area and socialise elsewhere, so I'm seldom out and about here for long.
I used to live in New cross and then moved to lewisham,in the mid nineties it had a shocking reputaion back then, but i thought it was one of the most friendly down to earth places in london.

Sorry Malibu, that was at Buckfast Bastard (of the Milwaukee Bastards?) and everyone who keeps describing Islam as some kind of other group. Why do some people here insist on thinking that they still have some kind of valid opinion after I've already settled the issue?
(OLP - just in case you're not sure, I didn't really mean that last bit.)
Perhaps I should have put 'us' in inverted commas, but I was just trying to say that the BNP claims that Muslims are trying to breed themselves into the majority religion are bullshit. I would have no problem with Islam being the majority religion - as long as they respect the secular democratic system I don't care.
That's why the BNP's arguments are inherently racist, because they presuppose that Muslims are incapable of respecting a secular democratic system. It's total bollocks.
