I read the first 20 or 30 issues of that and then lost track. Interesting stuff indeed.

Does anyone have some tips to read book quite efficiently? I've started reading The Odyssey two days ago but I keep forgetting what I've read. I thought of looking for an audio book online so I can read it and listen to it at the same time.

There's plenty of free audiobooks if you go looking on torrent sites. Something like The Oddyssey with no copyright on it might even be on https://librivox.org/.

(Awful coverart for the next one, but historical fiction/magical realism for you)

Slow going on this one, I'm kinda just reading chunks at the moment.

Giving Sherlock Holmes Vs Cthulhu by Lois H. Gresh a go. It will probably be shit but I was intrigued.

I was intrigued by that as well. I ended going for Brave New World, but I'd be interested to hear what it's like.

100 pages in and it's not grabbing me so far. Lots of americanisms in it too, given that she's supposed to be writing in the style of Arthur Conan Doyle.

A History of Ireland by Mike Cronin

Makes for pretty dense reading. It's a historical source so of course I was never expecting Thomas Hardy, but there's pretty much no room for lively or particularly engaging language. Pretty interesting though - definitely learning lots of stuff, especially about the period between the viking incursions and Cromwell's invasion, which I basically knew nothing about.

The Taming of the Queen by Phillipa Gregory

Utterly brilliant. Such human writing but clearly based on tireless research and fact checking. I started reading it late last year but had to stop due to having to read/proof-read other things for work, so started from the beginning again a couple of days ago. I think Gregory has to be considered amongst the best writers of historical fiction currently active.

Having gone off and read other books about 80's HC, I know see the problems with this that people had when this came out. It's obvious that he was going off memory and didn't fact check or research much, it wouldn't be so bad if it was just an oral history like Gimme Something Better and he didn't try to force in his own stories and opinions.

I've only read Norwegian Wood and After Dark, I've had loads of his recommend to me, this is just the first one that I've got to since I put it on my Amazon wishlist as a reminder to check out.

Been reading Stephen King's It for what is probably coming up to two months. I just haven't had the time to really get back into it lately.

It's a long ass book. I read it 25 years ago. Can't say I'm in a rush to revisit it.

Yeah, I read it as a teen and, as much as I enjoyed it then, once was enough.
