Come on now, we all know that that's just not true.

Leaving Las Vegas aside, he's never impressed.

Bad Liutenant was OK, haven't seen Kiss Of Death, the rest were pretty bad. Anyway, I'm talking about Cage, not the films.

What a disturbing film! His acting and this film combined is the reason I can't get into any of his films.

Except Kick Ass. I totally forget it's him when I see that film.

I lasted twenty minutes of Sky Captain.
Drivel.

Nicolas Cage is a legend and I just needed an excuse to post this.

In fact, everybody should post this.

Post Re: Film Thread MkV
ARGO

CIA agent Ben Affleck and his pet beard try to rescue six Americans trapped in Iran by pretending they're the film crew of a fake sci-fi movie called "Argo".

Considering Argo (the actual film, not the fake one) is meant to be "based on a true story", that's about as close to the facts as it gets.
Even though it's advertised as "The declassified true story", there are so many fictional events, anachronisms, and made up characters in the film that to claim it was even based on a true story is stretching the truth to breaking point.

Where to start? Well, for starters, Alan Arkin's film producer didn't exist; he was an amalgamation of three other people. There were more people involved in the rescue who weren't even mentioned. The six escapees are shown as living together under the same roof but in reality they were in two separate locations. The film shows they couldn't set foot outside of the house but there was actually a garden with an interior courtyard where they were able to walk freely any time of day or night without fear of being seen.
The early part of the film shows the Hollywood sign in a state of total disrepair. However, with money donated by the likes of Hugh Hefner and Alice Cooper, the iconic sign had already been completely renovated the year before the film was set

Then there's the big moment in the film where Affleck takes the six escapees to a local bazaar for a fictional location scouting mission, but the reality is that never happened either.
The final chase at the airport - the film's biggest dramatic moment - also never happened. And most importantly, the actual cover story never even got to be tested because security was never that tight and there were so few members of the Revolutionary Guard on duty that early in the morning.
So Argo the film, much like Argo in the movie itself, is pure fiction.

However, does all of that make it a bad film? No it does not. In fact, taken as a standard Hollywood work of fiction, it's a very good film indeed. Affleck takes centre stage himself, aided by Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, and a host of actors recognisable from some of the most popular recent TV shows such as Six Feet Under, True Blood, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Sons of Anarchy, Friends, Scrubs, and Heroes.

The sense of tension and dread created by being caught in the middle of a very hostile Tehran is palpable, but this is cleverly offset by a tight and occasionally very witty script which keeps things from ever getting too dark for too long.
Also, some minor goofs aside, the attention to on screen detail is incredible. The hairstyles, clothes, technology, and decor not only make you feel like you're watching a film set in the early '80s, but one that was made at that time too.

4 Fists.

He was decent in Bad Lieutenant and Wild At Heart, and excellent in Raising Arizona, but he is poor enough in the others. He was fucking awful in The Rock.

Best performance in that film was by David Morse.

Let's get some objective facts in here.

Nic Cage has starred in a lot of shit films.

He is not the reason why these films are shit, though. Far from it.

Nic Cage is a tremendous theatrical actor working in cinema. His best performance is Bad Lieutenant. He is probably one of if not the greatest actor of the last 40 years. He is insane and he doesn't give a shit. He will star in anything because of his love for working and because he's skint and that pyramid tomb he bought in New Orleans ain't going to pay for itself. A shame he had to sell his castles.
For Ghost Rider 2 he actually painted his face up voodoo style to get in character and scared the shit out of the people responsible for fucking Crank 2!

He is untouchable. Watch your fucking privilages.

Some films I'm thinking of wasting my time on:

Surveillance (2008)
Miss Bala (2011)
Painted Skin The Resurrection (2012)
Sky Captain And The World Tomorrow (2004)
Beyong the Black Rainbow (2010)
Dragon Crusaders (2011)

Anybody see any of these?

I've seen Surveillance I think. If it's the film that's directed by David Lynch's daughter then it is excellent with a brilliant twist. Watch it immediately.

Nicolas Cage is excellent you cloth eyed fools. It's not so much about acting ability it's like ability and he is a likable, passable character on screen who is enjoyable to watch. Wild At Heart is one of the best films of the nineties with a metalish soundtrack too.
