I'd take Back To School over most of Murray's 80's films.

Back to School is shit. Dangerfield makes the whole thing unwatchable.

This is one of the best written scenes in mainstream American comedy of the last 40 years:

Wasn't much of a Sam Kinison fan either tbh.

Saw Blue Velevet at the Cornerhouse last night. Which was also the last ever showing before they relocate/rebrand as far as I'm aware.

It was a nice atmosphere and I'm sure it was close to if not a sell out. There was a chap talking for far too long about David Lynch before hand, telling us nothing that un-well known, but there was a real sense of occasion about it all.

The film was good. I'd actually not realised but I think I'd seen a lot of individual scenes before in one way or another. So there was an air of familiarity to it all. It was the kind of film where I kind of recognised it's brilliance, but that didn't fully win me over in spite of that.

Solid 4 fists.

I really enjoyed this one. The characters were so real & it kept me heavily engaged throughout. Highly recommended.

'Boyhood' has it's moments. Regardless of the time to film it, it is very much a Linklater film - those are always going to be a bit short in actual narrative. I do think he does a good job of capturing relatable emotions though. It needed more Ethan Hawke though (or at least his character) as the best dialogue typically occurred in those scenes.

Surely this is the first time this has ever been said, by anyone.

Agree with all of this, especially the relatable emotions bit.

It's a pretty good film, but I think the praise was a little overboard.

Having said that, it is nice to see an ambitious low budget American film become successful--it cost 4 mill and made around 45---and I think dismissing the concept as a 'gimmick' is too flippant, regardless of how one feels about the finished product.

I certainly didn't think it was legitimate best picture material. A lot of films have dealt with similar subject matter a lot better. I also wasn't enamoured to Patricia Arquette's performance either to be honest, at least not with the praised it received. It was a bit too one dimensional and archetypal for my liking.

It is more a film about 'signpost' moments rather than a typical narrative, and it makes us think about our own signpost moments, particularly those in a rather volatile part of our development. It's probably about a 3 for me, maybe 3.5.

For the second time: I never thought I'd say this, but it looks good!

I just watched an interview with Sigourney Weaver, and she claims that James Cameron is planning to make 3 Avatar sequels simultaneously. wtf!?!?! I thought it was only 2?

I still haven't seen the first one.

You don't want to, it's utter predictable garbage that you can see coming after the first 15 minutes.

James Cameron should be sent to the moon.

Forever.

Absolutely. His best work is clearly well behind him at this point.

I haven't really liked a film of his since T2, and that came out 24 years ago.

I watched "Interstellar" last night & it blew me away. It's like it was written specifically for my taste as far as the subject matter goes.
